Algorithms for Kids!

Happy Saturday Everyone! While hunkering down at home, you can check out some fun activities to learn the fundaments of coding and take the Exact Instructions Challenge to drive your kids crazy!

WHAT IS AN ALGORITHM? It is a process or set of rules to be followed in calculations or other problem-solving operations, especially by a computer. (Oxford Dictionary.)

Here is a great lesson plan you can adapt for your kids to teach about algorithms. It is put together by a UK educator named Mr. Hunt “From the Front.”: (See on his page and videos on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/mrhuntfromthefront/)

Dancing is a great way to teach coding and algorithms. Algorithms are a set of instructions, just like the instructions for a dance. By challenging the children to write their algorithm for a dance, they are effectively writing code!

A BBC video used to explain algorithms to kids is here:

An original dance video the children studied to find the algorithm can be found here (Tik Tok)
