The Society of Illustrators and MOCCA are hosting an online comic and cartoon week with discussions, interviews, and mini-workshops with comic and cartoon artists from around the world. It is taking place in New York time (EST) but some events you will still be able to catch from Berlin such as the hands-on workshop today, Tuesday April 13th at 2pm EST, 8pm in Berlin: Making Autobiographical Comics with Meghan Parker.
On Thursday April 15h you can make cute animal comics with children’s book illustrator Mika Song, at 2pm EST, 8pm Berlin time.
On Friday at 12pm EST, 6pm Berlin time, you can listen in to an informal conversation with the famous Hernandez Brothers of Love and Rockets comics, talking with Adrian Tomine (See Featured Image), New Yorker illustrator and author of Optic Nerve and The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Cartoonist.
On Saturday April 17th, there will be a FREE event called Saturday Stories, that is meant for kids 5 and up, and invites children and their adult companions to a read-aloud and hands-on workshop related to the wide range of materials and processes that illustrators use to create their picture books. Join acclaimed illustrator Libby VanderPloeg for an exciting workshop and reading of Brooklyn Bailey, The Missing Dog. Libby will share her approach to creating fun, colorful maps and then show participants how to make a map of their own that highlights one of their favorite places. For this workshop, participants will need: markers, colorful paper scraps (or construction paper), scissors, one 8.5 x 11 sheet of paper (any color or white), and a glue stick.
